Insights from The Armory Show, 2023 New York

The Armory Show 2023 Javits Center, New York, NY

This month marked the much-anticipated return of The Armory Show 2023, an annual art fair held in the heart of New York City. VIP opening day, in particular, drew the elite of the art world, offering a first look at the remarkable array of solid curation and available works.

Since Frieze acquired The Armory Show and Chicago EXPO back in July of this year, the unexpected change had set the art world abuzz, creating an intriguing backdrop against which the fair unfolded. As a longstanding institution in the New York art scene, directors of the fair chose to maintain its traditional September slot, resulting in a temporal overlap with its distant partner, Frieze Seoul, held halfway across the world. This scheduling conflict had raised concerns about potential divisions in attendance. However, as we ventured into the sprawling exhibition space, any concerns about attendance were swiftly dispelled by the resilient crowd of art collectors from across the globe.

The artwork on display was nothing short of captivating and sales figures reflected this enthusiasm, with several significant transactions taking place though sales reported were mostly five-figure. Here, we highlight five remarkable artworks and sales stats that left a lasting impression all falling within the $50,000 and under price range.

Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery sold five paintings by Rebecca Brodskis in the $32,000–$48,000 range
